"Amazon Music is now available on Apple TV and can be downloaded from the tvOS App Store. As per It is presently available in 13 countries, which include developed markets like the US, Canada, UK, and emerging markets like India. Recently, Spotify also announced that its app on iOS 13 will now have Siri support. Amazon Music is a direct competitor to Apple Music, but still Apple has been opening up its ecosystem for rival streaming services. This is a good move as it will create an open ecosystem and make Apple TV more acceptable in the market. Also, the same holds true for music streaming companies as users will not be confined to use a specific service just because they have the hardware/service of one company." - Abhilash Kumar (Source: The Verge)

"Google will have its ‘Made by Google’ event on Tuesday, October 15, and introduce new high-end smartphones - Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, a new notebook - Pixelbook Go, and some smart gadgets including its true wireless earbuds - Pixel Buds 2. Amazon and Microsoft have introduced their own true wireless earbuds in the last two weeks, and now Google is expected to do the same with a forthcoming refresh of its Pixel Buds. The first-generation Pixel Buds were not exactly true wireless buds, and the market response was negative due to the poor features and functionalities. However, this time, Google may differentiate Pixel Buds 2’s capabilities with Google Assistant, considering that voice assistants play a larger role in the lives of consumers using true wireless earbuds these days. As Pixel Buds 2 will compete with Amazon Echo Buds and Samsung Galaxy Buds rather than Apple AirPods, it will be difficult for Google to price it much higher than the US$159 for the first-generation version." - Liz Lee (Source: The Verge)

"The Walt Disney Company is set to launch Hotstar, India’s largest OTT provider, in key global markets that include Singapore and West Asian countries. In 2018, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, which owns Star India, the parent of Fox Star Studios and Hotstar. Now, Disney aims to reach a majority of the 40 million South Asians living abroad. Hotstar had already launched in three key international markets – the US, the UK, and Canada. In a big push for Hotstar, Disney already cut off linear television offers on Star TV channels in many of the countries where it plans to launch Hotstar. With the digital content delivery cheaper than cable, Hotstar will be a more cost-effective move to tap into the expat South Asian population." - Angela Cheon (Source: News18)

"Germany has finalized rules for the build-out of 5G mobile networks. The rules will not exclude China’s Huawei Technologies. Government officials confirmed that Germany’s so-called ‘security catalog’ foresaw an evaluation of technical and other criteria, but to create a level playing field for equipment vendors, no single vendor will be barred. This change in the German position on the Huawei ban for 5G is expected to spread throughout Europe. Of course, the German government's position is likely to change if security issues reappear. Huawei will do its best to avoid any security problems, so it is expected that there will be no problems in the short term. As a result, the 5G infrastructure market in Europe is likely to intensify competition." - Jene Park (Source: Reuters)

"The electric version of the Nexon is likely to be priced at around US$22,000. At this price point, it will be tough to sell in a cost-sensitive market like India, where the best-selling car is priced at around US$4,000. Hyundai Kona, an electric car priced at around US$35,000, sold just 130 units in the last three months. Automakers continue to test waters and learn from their experience. They remain bullish, despite the current low demand, of the long-term future for electric vehicles in the country. This is because of the increasing government push, fast-developing ecosystem, and declining battery costs."- Aman Madhok (Source: Inside EVs)

"Ford Motor Co. is ceding management of its India operations to Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M), and transferring most of its assets in the country into a joint venture. The deal will effectively end Ford’s independent operations in the country. The US carmaker is estimated to be taking an impairment charge of US$800 million to US$900 million, related to the value of its India assets. The transaction will be completed by mid-2020, after which the JV will become operational. Ford’s urgent step is consistent with its global strategy to lower risks by withdrawing from markets it has failed to grow profitably. Earlier in June, Ford announced it would restructure its European operations, shutting several production units and laying off about 12,000 people by end-2020." - Vinay Piparsania (Source: Bloomberg)

"Tesla acquired Hibar, a Canadian company with expertise in automated battery manufacturing for electric vehicles, laptops, and others. This will help Tesla accelerate its plans to manufacture its own battery cells. Although the company has no plans to abandon its current battery suppliers, Panasonic and LG Chem, the acquisition is not the first in this space for Tesla. It aims at creating bespoke battery solutions for longer range and increased lifecycles to create differentiation instead of increasing competition in the electric vehicles sector. Tesla also struck a five-year research agreement with Jeff Dahn, whose team published a paper on a long lifespan battery (million-mile battery) being a possibility. Since battery capacity, range, and lifespan all are important concerns in the electric vehicle industry, making a breakthrough innovation in any of these can be a big differentiator for Tesla." - Shobhit Srivastava (Source: Engadget)

"In view of Turkey’s positive macroeconomic conditions, its relatively low 150 cars per 1,000 population, a qualified workforce, and a well-developed supplier base, VW Group is planning on manufacturing the next-gen VW Passat and Skoda Superb at Manisa, near Izmir, from 2022. With an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, the focus will be on export markets. VW also sees producing locally as the most strategic way to hedge against Turkey’s volatile currency fluctuations." - Vinay Piparsania (Source: AutomotiveNews Europe)

"Bosch, the German automotive supplier, with slowdowns observed in almost all global markets, sees no growth in car production until 2025. With the lower automotive production and sales in China and India, Bosch has been hit hard and is considering plant closures and over 1,000 job cuts. The company is strategically looking at opportunities in electric mobility and advanced technology in vehicles to reduce emissions, and also on autonomous driving. Bosch is also offering mobility services providers a wide-ranging portfolio. However, it will still not be enough to overcome the current downward spiral in the market." - Vinay Piparsania (Source: AutomotiveNews Europe)

"Huawei has now released its high-profile Mate 30 Series phones in the Chinese market and has priced it 40% less than the international prices published on launch. Huawei said that it sold more than US$70 million worth of devices in a single minute on Vmall.com, its retail site. Huawei Mate 30 Series' discounts from the initial sales periods are expected to change the market share ranking board of the high-end segment in the Chinese market. The biggest hit is likely to be on the sales of Apple's iPhone 11 series. Sales of premium products of other OEMs such as OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi, may be affected in H2 2019 in China." - Jene Park (Source: Forbes)
